I Wanna Give!

While I was sweeping a load of dry leaves under the mango tree early this morning, the neighbor's thunderous radio roared all over our sleepy place. The kind of music being played was the oldies but goodies. Well, sobrang lakas man, I enjoyed listening to the music na lang. I became nostalgic when I heard a very familiar song .  Perry Como's " I want To Give". It was my dad's favorite.

Memories flashed back suddenly. I had to sit down on my duyan tied on the mango tree branch for me to savor the reminiscence. I found myself singing along with Perry. Some of my lyrics were correct, others weren't exact. I was in 4th grade when I first heard that song. It was played on our phonograph every now and then. My dad had a copy of it on 45 rpm record. (tama ba ako sa term? hehe) Hopeless romantic as he was, dad wanted to get a copy of the lyrics of the song so he gave me the task of transcribing it while being played. I had to replay it by placing the needle (?) from the periphery of the disc then wait until it finished rotating. I had to do it several times til I got the (in)correct lyrics. Ang hirap kaya intindihin ng song hehe. I was able to memorize it forcefully, yes, napilitan lang  because of constant playing.

Contentment did not embrace me so  I left the mango leaves to where they are and  I  rushed to youtube to look for the song. I got the exact copy of the lyrics. I wanted to post the video here kaya lang di ko alam hehe. Now I fully understand the song. Now I discern why dad liked that song. Maybe he wanted to give his life completely.
